Thank you for stepping into the spotlight with Autherine Publishing. Please introduce your latest book to our audience.

Looking for an engaging book to teach kids about rapid change and explain the military lifestyle? This is it! I Move A Lot and That’s Okay” teaches kids how to emotionally cope with relocation. Designed to build resilience and confidence in children, this picture book follows a bright-eyed girl in a military family as she shows the reader that she can embrace a new environment, language, and a different culture. Leaving their home and settling in another is tough on all kids. This is what military families go through when moving to a new station, far away from home in another city, state, or country.

Why was it important for you to write this story?

During the pandemic, it is important that we meet the emotional needs of children. This adventure is filled with sadness, loss, acceptance, and hope. By the end of the story, young readers will be chanting the theme of the book: "I move a lot and that’s okay!” While this book features a military child, its message of resilience and hope are universal ones that help all children to overcome obstacles more easily.

Describe your writing process or writing schedule.

I'm a morning person so wake up early to write. I enjoy a nice cup of coffee, stare out of the kitchen window for a few moments and begin writing (30 minutes per day). For me, it's easier to write in the morning.

Who is your favorite black author and how has that author inspired your writing journey?

My favorite black author was and will always be Maya Angelou. Her poetry and life story has inspired and lifted me over the years.

Share a quote from your book or your favorite black history quote.

"Military orders are important chores or rules given by the big boss to service members. You have to do what the big boss says to do. No whining at all, and you can't say no! Soldiers like me listen and follow directions, and that's okay".

What words of advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Whatever you think you can't do, just know that there is someone who is confidently doing it wrong right now. They have no plans at doing it better either and people are paying them to do it. Please believe in your own excellence as much as they believe in their mediocrity.- Simply put, write that book!

What has been the most challenging part of the writing or publishing journey?
The learning curve. There is always something new to learn. It's a challenge but a rewarding one!

What is next on your journey and how can we support your book?

Next on my journey to is create courses for the children's book. You can support by donating a copy to your local library system.
